SOCIAL - Social relations, digital technologies and wellbeing of older people

Objectives:

SOCIAL aims to advance ground-breaking research on social relations in an aging digital landscape with three primary objectives:

  1. To estimate and compare the effects of digital and non-digital social relations on the wellbeing of older individuals.
  2. To assess whether the use of digital technologies influences the quantity and quality of social relations.
  3. To examine how social relations influence the extent and manner in which older individuals use the Internet and digital devices.

By adopting an interdisciplinary approach, and drawing insights from social gerontology and other social sciences, SOCIAL seeks to shed light on the impact of digital social interactions on the wellbeing of older individuals.

The project methodology aims to bridge critical knowledge gaps through the use of advanced statistical methods and of large-scale representative data.
